Do you think it is good for parents to slap their children to discipline them?

My mother used to slap me since I was a small child when I was naughty. I did not really enjoy that. But I would like to know what whoever comes across this question by chance thinks about it? And by the way I have had a shaky relationship with my mom all along. She always has to be right. She slaps judgemental comments on my face whenever she likes because she is older. She assumes because our "culture" teaches because she is older "I must respect her at all times" and she is always "correct". Also, she has no consideration for my feelings whatso ever. Anyway, it has been a month of peace in my life for the first time I am 28 years old and not talking to her and that is best. I am not close to my mother. I can get into further details about what she forced me to do with my life but I have said enough for the question above.
