Dear god, why does Oprah Winfrey act like the universe can't function without her?

I agree with you that her ego is definitely off the charts. To be honest, I never understood why people were so enthralled with her show. Her fans seemed to blindly respond to her every whim. They would buy ANY book or product that the woman endorsed! The couple of times I did tune in to watch one of her shows, they seemed very one-sided to me. It was clear that she wanted to voice *her opinions* expressly without anyone arguing back.
