Have you ever been in a relationship with a narcissist (someone with NPD)?

I have, and it's SO awful, I'm just dealing with our last and final big breakup. I don't know why I'd keep going back to him, I think he just tore me down so much, turned things around blaming me for everything, and I was hoping things would get better. I feel like I was making all the effort and he wasn't, only putting me down. How can I recover from that?
